Feeders for Your Aquarium

Feeders are essential tools to ensure that your fish receive the proper nutrition in a consistent and controlled manner. From automatic feeders to holiday feeders, these devices help maintain a healthy feeding routine for your aquatic pets, especially when you're away or need to manage feeding times more efficiently.

Convenient and Efficient Feeding Solutions

Feeders come in a variety of types to suit different needs. Automatic feeders are perfect for regular, timed feedings, ensuring your fish get the right amount of food even when you're not around. Holiday feeders are ideal for short-term vacations, dispensing food for your fish over several days. These feeders help reduce the stress of overfeeding or underfeeding, keeping your tank in top condition while ensuring your fish stay healthy.

Feeders at LiveFish

At LiveFish, we offer a wide selection of high-quality Feeders to suit all aquarium setups. Whether you're looking for an automatic feeder or a holiday feeding solution, we have options that make feeding your fish more convenient and stress-free. Feeder fish are small fish bred to serve as live food for larger, carnivorous aquarium inhabitants like predatory fish, amphibians, or reptiles. They provide essential nutrients and stimulate natural hunting behaviours. Common examples include guppies, goldfish, minnows, and rosy red minnows.

The lifespan of feeder fish varies by species and care conditions. For instance, guppies may live 2-3 years, goldfish up to 5 years, and minnows around 1-2 years. However, in feeder tanks, they often live shorter lives as their purpose is to act as food for larger carnivorous fish.

To ensure feeder fish are healthy and nutritious:

  • Quarantine: Isolate them in a separate tank for at least 2–3 weeks to monitor for diseases.
  • Gut-load: Feed them high-quality, nutritious food to enhance their nutritional value.
  • Maintain water quality: Regularly change 50% of the water to reduce toxins.

Introduce feeder fish during active feeding times to encourage natural hunting behaviours. Ensure the size of the feeder fish is appropriate for the predator to prevent choking hazards. Avoid overfeeding to prevent water quality issues.

Feeder fish, like goldfish and minnows, do help keep the tank clean to some extent by scavenging leftover food, algae, and detritus from the substrate. However, they are not as effective as dedicated cleaner fish such as Corydoras or Siamese algae eaters. While they may nibble on algae, they won’t significantly reduce the build-up of debris or waste. Relying solely on feeder fish for tank cleaning can lead to water quality issues, so it's essential to maintain proper filtration and water changes for optimal tank health.
